The hashtag (#) is the most popular internet symbol known after the ‘at’ (@) symbol. A decade ago, it had no real meaning or use to the internet beyond signifying ‘number’. Today, it’s ubiquity is unmatched.
From personal accounts to brand pages, social media is filled with hashtags. We have seen brands and causes rise to the top of trends as a result of proper hashtag use and we have seen causes bring down brands with hashtags.
